What happens when a male lion and a female tiger breed? A Liger – the largest of all felines. A liger looks like a giant lion with diffused stripes and some male ligers grow sparse manes. These massive creatures are 10 feet long on average and weigh about 700 lb (320kg). Liger love swimming – trait common to tigers but lacking in lions. Ligers have been bred in captivity, deliberately and accidentally, since shortly before World War II. The largest liger alive today is appropriately named Hercules and lives in Jungle Island in Miami.

Fireflies and Internal lights

Do you wonder where fireflies got their internal light? Fireflies actually contain the so-called Luciferin. This substance when combined with oxygen will enable them to produce light. This process is called bioluminescence and they light up to attract the mate. Same is true with angler fish which also produces light, but they use it to catch the prey.

Margarita Ruhl:The German Top Model Saturday, Jul 11 2009

Meet Margarita Ruhl, currently competing alongside Germany’s elite beauties to be crowned the winner of Germany’s Next Topmodel. The show, hosted by FHM favourite Heidi Klum, will whittle down an original pool of nearly twenty hopefuls to just one winner. And that one winner should then (unless she blows it) go on to cultivate a stratospheric pay packet, be the proud owner of Germany’s most revered brustwarze and sign-on for a pay-per-view, all-you-can-drink showdown with David Hasselhoff. Or not.

But the real news? We shot Margarita back in December, as part of the FHM Advent Calendar. And if she’s as popular in Germany as she was with readers, well, just remember where you saw here first.

10 Days 15 Death Saturday, Jul 11 2009

THE British Army has now suffered more deaths in Afghanistan than in Iraq. The grim landmark came with the loss of six soldiers yesterday – five slaughtered in one devastating ambush. A total of 184 UK military personnel have fallen fighting the Taliban, passing the 179 who perished battling Saddam Hussein and insurgents.

The ambush happened in the early hours, near the Helmand hotspot of Sangin. Taliban fanatics used a small “come-on” explosion to draw a British unit on a routine night patrol towards a huge bomb.It was detonated as the troops, from 2nd Battalion The Rifles, grouped together, military sources revealed.

The attack was the worst single incident the Army has suffered in Afghanistan since the Taliban were toppled by US-led allied forces in 2001. The sixth soldier to die yesterday was from the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment. He was blown up by a roadside bomb while travelling on a Viking tracked vehicle.

The much-criticised machines are currently being withdrawn because they cannot withstand blasts from the Taliban’s improvised devices.
The families of all six dead soldiers were being informed last night.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defence announced that two troops were killed on Thursday in the ongoing Operation Panther’s Claw offensive against the Taliban.

Playboy want naked Winslet Wednesday, Jul 8 2009

IF an Oscar, two Golden Globes and a Bafta aren’t enough for KATE WINSLET – she’s now been bestowed with another honour. HUGH HEFNER has offered the British actress a spot on the cover of Playboy with a nude spread inside.
If Kate takes Hugh up on his offer she would follow in the footsteps of MARILYN MONROE, SHARON STONE, PAMELA ANDERSON and fellow Oscar winner CHARLIZE THERON.

The 82-year-old Playboy boss told a newspaper: “There’s no question we would be interested in Kate. “It’s a competitive market, more than it used to be, so she would be a most welcome addition in our pages.” Kate has been filmed topless in many of her movies, including Academy Award victors The Reader and Titanic. But she has vowed to never again appear naked on screen again, for fears of being typecast. She said: “I don’t want to be known as that actress who gets her kit off.”

Michael Jackson’s body left the Staples Center in Los Angeles in a funeral motorcade Tuesday after a star-studded public memorial service for the singer, but it wasn’t immediately clear where the King of Pop’s body was headed.

Los Angeles police told FOX News that the hearse carrying Jackson’s golden casket would be taken to a cemetery, but it appears unlikely that the cemetery will be Forest Lawn Memorial Park, as was originally expected.

FOX News obtained a copy of Jackson’s death certificate, dated Tuesday, which names Forest Lawn for temporary use. The family held a private service there before the casket was taken to the Staples Center, but Los Angeles Officer April Harding said Jackson’s body will not be returning there.

Insomniac Michael Jackson begged for sedative Wednesday, Jul 1 2009

LOS ANGELES – Michael Jackson was so distraught over persistent insomnia in recent months that he pleaded for a powerful sedative despite warnings it could be harmful, says a nutritionist who was working with the singer as he prepared his comeback bid.

Cherilyn Lee, a registered nurse whose specialty includes nutritional counseling, said Tuesday that she repeatedly rejected his demands for the drug, Diprivan, which is given intravenously.

But a frantic phone call she received from Jackson four days before his death made her fear that he somehow obtained Diprivan or another drug to induce sleep, Lee said.
