Three school children among four were killed and several others injured when their school van collided with the Ferozepur-Bathinda express at an unmanned railway crossing at Gumtala village in Jalandhar district, on Wednesday (May 20), early morning.  The huge impact of the collision made the van drag 200 meters away with the train. Three of the students and driver of the van were killed on the spot while several students were injured.

The injured were taken to nearby hospitals where the condition of some of them was stated to be critical. Senior police and railway officials have rushed to the spot for rescue operations.
